PPMA Apprentice of the Year 2015

Carl Stevens wins PPMA Apprentice of the Year!

Apprentice of the Year aims to shine a light on passionate, committed public service workers at the start of their career and this year we got that in abundance!

We saw our highest number of entrants to the competition with over 50 applications received which were whittled down to a shortlist of 22 delegates from 20 different public sector organisations.

Following a tough two days of group exercises, on the spot questions and presentations, Carl Stevens from Essex Fire and Rescue Service was crowned overall winner of PPMA Apprentice of the Year. Presenting Carl with his award, Georgina Catalinotto, Talent Programme Manager for Manpower Group UK commended Carl on his consistent performance throughout the two days, his passion, enthusiasm and the compassion he showed for his fellow delegates.

Georgina was joined on the judging panel by Colette Quinn, HR Advisor oneSource on behalf of London Borough of Havering and Newham and Ellie Goddard, PPMA Rising Stars 2013 winner and Organisational Design Manager, Orbis partnership between East Sussex and Surrey County Councils.

As well as our winner, Ellie presented Justine Burrows from Nottingham City Council with the “Spirit of Apprentice of the Year” award and Colette presented Terry White from South Gloucestershire Council with the “Outstanding Development” award. All three winners gave outstanding performances in their presentation to the judges on the final day of the competition.

Leatham Green, Talent Lead for PPMA and Programme Director: People and Change for Orbis coached each of the delegates in a variety of communication masterclasses and described the event as the highlight of his year.

Carl will be celebrated at the charity awards dinner at the PPMA Annual Seminar in June 2016.
