PPMA Apprentice of the Year 2016

Matthew Wallis wins Apprentice of the Year 2016!

The future of Public Service certainly looks bright if the calibre of our Apprentice of the Year applicants is anything to go by!

21 applicants from 17 different public service organisations across the country were shortlisted to go through to the final two day assessment in Warwick. The culmination of the two days sees Apprentices present to a judging panel on the topic of what they would like their public service legacy to be.

Matthew Wallis from Central Bedfordshire Council shared how having been elected to be a member of Central Bedfordshire’s Youth Parliament he was inspired to seek out an Apprenticeship in his Local Authority in order to continue being able to make a difference in his local community.

Adele Jenkins, from our event sponsor Ernst & Young presented Matthew with his award after he wowed the judges with his legacy – that he would like to support young disabled people gain traineeships and apprenticeships; something which the PPMA board are keen to hear more about to see where we can help Matthew make this a reality.

Louise Stephens-Saunders from ManpowerGroup; Colette Quinn, PPMA Rising Stars Alumni and Carl Stevens, our Apprentice of the Year winner 2015 joined Adele Jenkins on the judging panel.

All four judges were keen to recognise Charlie Dobroch from the London Borough of Newham and Maria Conway from East Sussex County Council by awarding them both the “Outstanding Development” award.

Maisie Burrows from Swindon Borough Council and Mariya Tarnavska from Warwickshire County Council both received the “Spirit of Apprentice of the Year” award after both of them demonstrated great passion at the start of their public service careers.

Matthew will be celebrated at the PPMA Annual Seminar next year.
